Influx by Daniel Suarez Book Summary

New York Times bestselling author Daniel Suarez imagines a chilling future where technological advances are held hostage by the government in this thriller that perfectly blends “nail-biting suspense with accessible science” (Publishers Weekly).

Physicist Jon Grady and his team have discovered a device that can reflect gravity—a triumph that will revolutionize the field of physics and change the future. But instead of acclaim, Grady’s lab is locked down by a covert organization known as the Bureau of Technology Control.

The bureau’s mission: suppress the truth of sudden technological progress and prevent the social upheaval it would trigger. Because the future is already here. And it’s rewards are only for a select few.

When Grady refuses to join the BTC, he’s thrown into a nightmarish high-tech prison housing other doomed rebel intellects. Now, as the only hope to usher humanity out of its artificial dark age, Grady and his fellow prisoners must try to expose the secrets of an unimaginable enemy—one that wields a technological advantage half a century in the making.

Solid. Solid book- first I'd read of Daniel Suarez. Definitely in the Michael Crichton Technical Thriller genre. Highlights include a plausible future state technical premise (surrounding Gravity Waves) with a slight detraction (not uncommon to authors) related to "chatty" plot building (aka plot advances found in character dialogue), etc. My biggest grievance with the book? How altogether doltish the arch-antagonist is. Without giving away plot points, I couldn't strike the vision that the arch-antagonis was, in fact, Mandark- from Dexter's Laboratory- fully grown. Everything about his unnuanced personality struck me as off, given his position within the BTC. That's unfortunate as the first portions- including the time spent in prison- were all 5 star.

Really good!. Couldn't put it down!

The best yet!. I couldn't put this book down from beginning to end the twists and turns were amazing. This is without a doubt Daniel Suarez's best book to date.

Like a science lecture in college. The writing is ok, but after 50 pages if scientific Mumbai jumbo my eyes crossed and I gave up. Took to long to get moving for me, I ended up bored and lost.

Part great, part silly. At the onset, I was thinking high concept....rich...along the lines of Carl Sagan's Contact. The author initially explored multiple layers (technology and its relation to society, conciousness and self determination, etc). Disappointedly, the last half of the book turns into generic manufactured one dimensional drama.

Meh. It’s a comic book pretending to be a novel.

Outstanding!!. I picked up Daemon some years ago, when it was just published in paperback because the cover notes interested me. Thank God I did! I couldn't wait to read Freedom and have haunted the websites, bookstores and iBooks ever since, waiting for the newest release of Daniel Suarez. Influx keeps the tradition alive with science, technology, philosophy, government, human foibles and weaknesses and the strength and dignity of mankind. Read Influx, you'll love it. Then re-read Kill Decision, Daemon and Freedom slowly and maybe, if we are all very lucky, the next one will be right around the corner. We've lost Mr Clancy but a truly worthy successor is alive and well in Mr Suarez and, like all true successors, he has moved beyond the paths left by his predecessors. Keep up the good work! Thank you!

Amazing. I love this book, me and my girlfriend both bought it, i finished it much faster because im in the field of physics and grabbed my attention much stronger, but we both love the book and we highly recommend it to anybody!

Really good stuff.. I’ve read all of Daniel Suarez’s other stuff, and Influx is definitely another gem of speculative fiction. It was a pretty good book from start to finish — the only real flaw is the inevitably-shoehorned-in romance plotline. Then again, it seems no author’s content to avoid the compulsory hetero romance. Shame, but the book’s definitely still worth reading.

Another thrill ride. I first heard of Daniel Saurez on a tech podcast. I decided to read his first book based on that recommendation. I devoured his first three novels (Daemon, Freedom and Kill Decision) quickly upon purchase. Then I read them again. And again. This novel is every bit as good as any of his first three. I will wait about six months and read it again. Saurez and Neal Stephenson are in top form. I'll buy anything they write because I know it will be a great read.

100% would recommend!. This book is very well written and the concept is incredibly interesting. If you're interested in science and technology, this book will definitely keep you hooked.

Great Book Overall (4.8). This book is a great piece of science fiction that will keep you reading constantly. The beginning is a bit slow and there are bits of unnecessary rambling (hence the 4.8 score) laced within some chapters. Aside from that, if you are a realistic future science and tolls it could cause on humanity person, then this book is for you.

Influx. Daniel Suarez hits his fourth homerun with this book. Great read, I highly recommend it!

Awesome read.. After fighting through the first chapter, which contained a lot of science I didn't know of; the story then got moving real fast.

Great read. I read that he could be the next gen Michael Crichton and had to check out Influx. From the very start of it I was sucked into the world of Physics and its possibilities.

Great book. Very well written for having lots of high tech. Great characters. Technically believable. I look forward to reading more from this writer. I highly recommend it.

Good read. Me = satisfied

Really well done. I enjoyed Daemon, freedom and kill decision. I picked this one up sometime ago but didn’t get passed page 84, fast forward a year,2,3?? And I picked it back up and could hardly put it down, really enjoyed it. I think I initially was not clear how this fit , but that was my bad. Fun stuff.

This was a really fun read, I found myself reading well into the night!. A must read if you enjoyed Daemon and Freedom!

Fun, Fast Paced and an Overall Delight!. Every time you think the "good guys" are going to catch a break, Suarez throws the reader for a loop and pulls the rug out from under you. But that's the brilliance of this book as the reader is tossed and turned, sans gravitas, through a tech -fantasy adventure where concepts of the greater good, altruism and questionable morals are explored.

Couldn't put it down. Gravitationally stunning work of technological fiction!(?)

Influx. Found this book in a rental cottage and read it in a weekend. Just couldn’t put it down. My wife was a bit upset with me but was happily lost in a great novel.
