Hot Shot Book Summary

A former Navy SEAL and current bad boy bar owner learns to trust a free spirit in this steamy novel of unexpected romance from the bestselling author of Body Shot and the Heller Brothers series.

Marco Solis knows that if he gets too close to people they disappear. His parents were deported back to Mexico when he was fourteen, his fiancée married someone else while he was in the military, and now his business partner’s spending more time with his girl than with Marco. For better or worse, that’s how Marco meets Carrie Garner. She’s legitimately model-hot. She’s also a nut—a wild, artsy, unapproachable nut. So why is Marco so interested in cracking her shell?

Although Carrie Garner is a natural in front of the camera, her dream is to make it as a photographer. Soon she’ll be heading to Spain for design school, and she’ll miss her best friend, Hayden, like crazy. She’ll even miss Hayden’s boyfriend, Beck—but she won’t miss Beck’s partner, Marco. Bossy, brooding, and annoyingly sexy, Marco really pushes her buttons, though he obviously wouldn’t mind pushing her buttons in an up-against-the-wall, hard-and-fast kind of way. The craziest part is, if Carrie lets him do that, well . . . she may never want to leave.

Hot Shot - Kelly Jamieson Reviews

  • Enjoyable Read

Hot Shot is a decent book and I enjoyed it. The book is pretty much what you would expect from a Kelly Jamieson romance. I think it is closer to 3 1/2 stars than 4 stars, but I don't like to score a book down. Our couple, Carrie and Marco, are likable characters who have hidden depths. Carrie is not just an airhead model and Marco is not just a guy looking to skate through life going from party to party. Both characters have self worth issues stemming from their childhoods (where the seeds of self worth issues are generally sown). Over the course of the book both characters grow and help each other figure out what they want in their lives. By the end of the book I did feel that Carrie and Marco belonged together and had a foundation to build a lasting romantic relationship on. I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The next in the Last shot series was hard to put down. This book is about Carrie and Marco, two people who don't think they can have what they want. Marco is a retired Navy Seal! Who runs a tequila bar with his best friends and Carrie is a model that thinks she has nothing to offer but a pretty face. Marco and Carries best friends are marrying each other and Marco has an idea to give them and engagement party. For this he needs the maid of honor and that's where Carrie comes in. Marco likes to flirt with Carries, although he feels she is way out of his league. Carrie blows Marco off because she thinks he is teasing her. Although there is an underlying chemistry and attraction, they both try to ignore it. Can these two people get beyond their insecurities and misconceptions to find that they are truly meant to be together. Like I said I loved this book. It was fun and kept me wanting to know how things would work out. I also liked a look at Hayden and Beck and a little glimpse into the next book. I would recommend this book! I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.
  • Bring On Cade

In this book we meet Marco, another ex SEAL along with Cade and Beck. The three of them own Conquistadors, an upscale Tequila bar (and trying to get their food menu up to par) Hayden and Beck are getting married soon and her best friend Carrie is spending more time at the bar with her. Carrie is a supermodel whose days are getting shorter work wise, she's a talented photographer and like Marco she's full of her own insecurities. Oh and she and Marco hate each other. That's the take off point of the story. Marco calls Carrie because he wants to plan a surprise engagement party for Hayden and Beck and needs her help. He's done all the research on line and has thought things through pretty well. Since she's maid of honor and best friend he enlists her, she's a little reluctant since they can't have a civil conversation but agrees and the planning begins. She's also leaving in 2 months for Spain to study photography. Raised in a family of overachievers she feels like she's never accomplished anything. She sees this as a means to and end. Despite her being work selling in galleries and getting great side jobs, she's still bent on going. Things heat up with her and Marco. Marco wants her desperately and it takes half the book to get there. The first half is idle dialogue which took me two days to plow through. Once things heat up they really sizzle, but for me those scenes fall a little short and get redundant although I did like Marco's filthy mouth. There are a couple of subplots here, one being her niece, the awesome Grandma and the wedding plans. Cade the man ho and the ongoing menu issues. Marco and Carrie are seeing each other on the sly until it comes out at a gathering and then it's assumed they are a couple, when really they seemed to see it as a fling with a end date. In spite of their growing feelings for each other which were pretty obvious but neither spoke the words. Pfft. These are 30 year olds. Hayden and Beck get married, Carrie is ready to go and after the wedding Marco tells her he's done. He's calling it off early. That's not a spoiler... threads of that run through the story. I think this book was a little better than book 1. The dialogue could have been trimmed way back and you'd still have a strong story without all the redundancy between Marco and Carrie. The second half is basically sex. They aren't really deep characters. I'm not sure they're people you can relate to, there's no one focus in the book. I do love Kelly's books and I'm hoping with the momentum of this one Cade's story is even better. This gets a 3.5 from me, but I rounded it up because of Marco. **arc from NetGalley and Loveswept in exchange for a fair review**

OMG!!! I laughed, I cried and needed a cold shower and cigarette ( if I smoked ). I felt like I was right there with them feeling their pain and happiness. This is the 2nd in this series and I cannot wait for Cade's story. Carrie is from a family of overachievers and she is a model. She really wants to be a photographer and gets a scholarship to a school in Spain for nine months. Her best friend Hayden is marrying Beck, one of the owners of the tequila bar, they met at. Beck's friend Marco asks Carrie for help with a surprise engagement party. Marco is a former SEAL, partner with Beck and Cade in the bar, and has abandonment issues. His parents were deported and he and his sister was put in foster care. She was adopted and he lost track of her. He is gorgeous, moody, and has some insecurities. Marco and Carrie have to put their differences aside and plan this party. But the more time they spend together, the more the attraction grows. So Marco suggests they have a no strings affair until she leaves in two months. What they don't expect is to fall for each other. Carrie must decide to go to Spain or stay with the man she has falling in love with. *RECEIVED A COPY FROM NETGALLEY AND VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED IT*
  • Terrific frenemy to lover's romance!

This is the second book in this series and I have anxiously been awaiting this one since Last Shot. Carrie and Marco met the night her best friend Hayden met Marco’s friend and business partner Beck. Sparks flew for Hayden and Beck, but Carrie and Marco didn’t hit it off. Carrie felt that Marco was a player and was always trying to hit on her and she felt like he wasn’t genuine. Marco was taken with Carrie but he felt she was out of his league and wouldn’t give him a chance. This is a story of frenemies to lovers. Carrie and Marco are working together as they are involved in the wedding of their best friends and have to plan an engagement party. As they are working together they both discover that they really didn’t know the person and guards are let down. The chemistry between these two is always simmering until it boils over and they can’t fight the pull. There is quite a few laugh out loud crazy times with Carrie’s wonderful flamboyant grandmother and the rest of the secondary characters. There is some very touching heart to heart talks that Carrie and Marco discover so much about the other that I had a lump in my throat as they told their respective story’s. There is push and pull between the characters and decisions that must be made as the story draws to a conclusion. I really enjoyed this terrific frenemy to lover’s romance and look forward to Cade’s story.

Loved this story! It's the second in a series but you can easily read this one and enjoy it without having read the first. Marco Solis is a former Navy SEAL who now owns a Tequila bar along with his two buddies. Marco is strong, determined, and sexy but underneath it all he deals with insecurities every day. Never letting himself get to close to many people fearing they will leave too. His parents where deported when he was a young teen and his fiancee couldn't wait for him to return from deployment before moving on so why should he trust anyone will stick around. Then Carrie Garner starts hanging around his bar more frequently and he want her to stick around more than anything but he knows she has plans to leave at the end of the summer. Can he just enjoy her for the amount of time they have or will his heart be hurt again? This is a very well done story and one I would recommend to everyone.

You never really think about the "beautiful" people having insecurities. Marco, a former seal who owns a tequila bar with his 2 best friends seems like he has it all. What most people don't know is he's still struggling with insecurities from being bounced around in foster care as a child. Carrie, a model/photographer, has her own set of insecurities. Her family is made up of very smart people and Carrie feels that she doesn't measure up. What you get in this story is two beautiful people that are attracted to each other but miss all the social cues based off their insecurities and believe the other is not sincere. They finally get honest with each other (well partially honest) when they come together to plan their best friends engagement party. While being forced to spend time together, they realize the attraction is mutual. I say they are partially honest because while they admit they are attracted, they still can't admit they want more than just a fling before Carrie takes up a scholarship in Spain for 9 months. At first I was worried the insecurities was going to be too much in the story and it did feel that way in the beginning. The more these two became closer the less we saw of the insecurities and their relationship felt more real. Overall, this was a fun read once we got past the insecurities and I really enjoyed seeing the couple from the first book again. We also get to see a possible match for Cade in book 3.

This is book #2, in the Last Shot series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and understanding, I recommend reading in order. Marco & Carrie met when she brought her best friend to his bar for a tasting. Now, their best friends are getting married. They see one another all the time, but he has no idea why Carrie seems like she hates him. Carrie does not want to be attracted to the hotter Marco. He just sets her on fire with a look. The more she gets to know him better, the more she is attracted to him. The story confused me at first. The characters are so hot together. It makes for a great story. The more funny things happen, the greater this story is. ****This ARC copy was given in exchange for an honest review.
