Didn’t age well.... Perhaps read with no previous exposure to the character of Bond you could appreciate it. However, for those who think they know the character from subsequent material, the origin of Bond portrays him as both tragically childish and unwieldy, never in control of his own thoughts and feelings. One thought I had during the book was “I wonder if Fleming was intentionally criticizing classic male-military-secret service-misogynistic stereotypes?” “Look at Bond, isn’t he silly?!” If so, bravo.
