The What If Guy

The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely Book Summary

It should be an easy rule to follow - don't bang your boss...
But I didn't know who he was when I met him.
And the first time I saw him, our connection sounded like the stuff of romantic legends -- that whole "their eyes locked across a crowded room" moment that turned into more.
I didn’t believe it. . . . until it happened to me.
Fine, the charming, clever, sexy-as-sin guy in the tailored suit was only trying to buy the same Snoopy lunchbox (as a gift!), but still, our eyes totally locked, and my lady parts definitely tingled as we vied for the prize.
Naturally, I did what any badass business woman would do. Negotiated for the lunchbox, then found my what-if guy online and made plans to see him the next night.
One night only -- that was the deal we made.
But one fantastic night had us both changing our minds in the morning. And making plans for another.
Until I walked into the office to learn he just bought my company.
And here’s the biggest rule of romantic legends -- no matter what, don’t bang your boss
Especially if you’re already falling for him.

- Review: The Guys Who Got Away 2: The What If Guy4 star

The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely is the second book in her latest series, The Guys Who Got Away . A story of an office romance mixed with single dad story line. Bryn is a successful business woman who knows what she wants, is good to everyone and is just what single-dad Logan never knew he was looking for. Logan is a single-dad with a desire to be with someone honest and real, who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to ask for it. When these two meet by kismet over a struggle for a Snoopy lunchbox their fates are forever intertwined. Too bad they didn't know that they had more in common than Snoopy, mainly the lifestyle blog that Bryn is content manager for that Logan just purchased. Told in mostly dual POV from Bryn and Logan we do get a few small chapters from their feline companions Bruce and Queen LT. Enjoy!

- MUST READ!5 star

The What If Guy was so much fun to read. Bryn and Logan meet over an old school lunchbox in a game of who can outwit the other to get the prize. Each has their reasons for wanting this particular lunchbox. After some witty banter and some intense chemistry, Logan must leave and Bryn walks away with the purchase. What they both learn is that they were hoping to spend more time with the other even after such a small exchange in the quirky gift shop. With a push from their friends, they each look for one another using a new APP. They reconnect and find that they really enjoy each other's company in many ways. Their first date and hot and steamy night together lead to the promise of a second date. Logan and Bryn quickly find out that they might have to cool the dating and remain friends. Lauren Blakely's The What If Guy is a story full of flirting, romance, and friendship that has you rooting for the couple from the very beginning. If you are looking to read a romantic comedy look no further, this book will have you reading with a smile on your face and a renewed hope that love can conquer all.

- I can’t get enough5 star

Lauren Blakely can sure write some sexy, passionate, hot scenes. Logan and Bryn were fire. Their chemistry was explosive. I completely devoured this book and may have gone back and re-read some very naughty scenes :) I enjoyed this book so much. One of the things I loved is the different factors that played into Logan and Bryn connecting. From their first encounter with the Snoopy Lunch Box, to their post on missed connections, to Logan being Bryn's new boss. These two were absolutely meant to connect at some point in their lives. This was a somewhat "love at first sight" type of story but it was so brilliantly written that it doesn't seem like an "insta-love." There was so much character development. We got to experience the progression of Logan and Bryn's relationship from strangers to lovers to friends to more intense lovers, to boss/employee to forbidden lovers to taking a chance, risking it all and falling in love. Logan and Bryn were perfect for each other. They were very comfortable with one another. They were honest and were not afraid of communicating their desires. I loved that they talked about different things in their lives (their past, their lost, their gains, their goals). This all played such a huge factor in their level of comfort and allowed them to express themselves emotionally and physically. I cannot get enough of this interconnecting world Lauren Blakely has created. Every story gives us more than the story between the two main characters. We get their families and friends and there is so much interaction that gets us excited for more. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. **I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.**

- Another hit by Lauren Blakely!4 star

Another hit by Lauren Blakely! I loved the “What If” storyline. Logan and Bryn’s banter is witty, flirty and on fire! Their chemistry is sizzling hot! Bruce and Queen LaTofu were highlights in this story. I highly recommend this book!

- Hilarious!!4 star

Eyes meet over a lunch box and the connection is instantaneous but the opportunity is missed. Enter the Missed Connections app and Bryn and Logan fund each other again. They are compatible in every way, seemingly completely perfect for each other. Until after the best night ever, they find out that Logan is Bryan's new boss. I felt so much disappointment when Logan walked in as the new CEO of The Dating Pool because I knew he was going to be the good guy and do the right thing. What cured my disappointment was the friendship that Logan and Bryn built while they were trying to deny that they belonged together. And the cats!!! Queen LaTofu and Bruce served as comic relief while their owners were getting it together. This series is funny, packs some heat, and has so much heartwarming romance. I'm counting the days until Fitz's story.

- No what if about it - I loved this book!4 star

I love Lauren Blakely rom-coms! I laughed out loud right away at the beginning this book and continued to do so until the end! Logan and Bryn had a such an original meet-cute! They had sparks from their first meeting, and it continued during their first date and after (if you know what I mean). They not only had chemistry but connection on other levels. They were planning a second date when they find out he’s her new boss (that’s in the blurb, not a spoiler). They agree they can’t romantically see each other again, but the spark and connection had already been made. Logan was a “hot, clever, dominant yet still sweet” man, and I adored him! He deserved happiness after what his ex did. He was in the dark after his divorce, and Bryn helped bring light back into his life. Bryn also deserved happiness after what her ex did to her. She was smart, clever, spoke her mind, went after what she wanted, and I adored her too! Can they make it work after they find out he’s her new boss? Read this enjoyable, laugh out loud, sweet, sexy rom-com and find out! I recommend it! *I received an advanced copy of this ebook for my honest review.*

I have a girl crush... and one on the guy too! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read The What if Guy is absolute purr-fection! There is so much to love in this book. I’m seriously crushing on this couple and their cats too! 😻 You will love their furry charm and quirky attitudes! Our characters have the best meet cute involving the best cartoon character ever! - Perfect RomCom!!5 star

This book definitely checked off all my RomCom boxes and so much more!! Yes it's super fun, flirty and full of humor like all Ms. Blakely's RomComs; but this one is also very sexy and verrrryyyyy hot and steamy!! Like pour a bucket of ice over me and turn the fan on steamy!!! Five Alarm Fire Hot!! It was my absolute pleasure to listen to this Audiobook!! It is amazing! The incredible voice acting of the extremely talented Joe Arden and Andi Arndt as Logan and Bryn brought this already perfect story to life in a way that put it way over the top in the must listen category!! And because it is done as duet narration it is even better because it’s like real time interactions between the character. Joe’s voice is just so sexy and a real treat for the ears. All of his emotions and passion come through so clearly in his performance. I love Andi’s voice too and the fun flirty sexy and sassy Bryn comes through loud and clear. Logan and Bryn are more perfectly matched than they ever could have imagined and have a super adorable meet-cute that goes beyond the first in person interaction. They have so much in common and are alike in all the ways that matter for a successful relationship! The fact that Logan is a charming, smart, sexy, successful single dad to a sweet and smart little girl (Amelia) and he also wears Clark Kent glasses to read is a huge bonus. That's like my personal kryptonite! Pun intended. I just adore him!! And Bryn is amazing too! She is also very smart, driven, caring and fun. I love her! I also love that they are both cat people and treat them like the family members they are. And Bruce and Queen LaTofu? Well they are just a double bonus. I love their chapters!! Santino Fontana voices Bruce and Emma Wilder does queen LaTofu. They are so good!! As a cat owner myself, I often wonder what mine are thinking and what they would say if they could talk. So cute and fun!! I read the book first but listening to it brought it to a whole new level of awesomeness!!! So yeah, I loved everything about this book from sweet beginning to the HEA that Bryn and Logan so deserve; topped off by phenomenal voice acting!!

- Purrrrfect!!5 star

The What If Guy is forbidden, fun and deliciously hot! Bryn and Logan’s mutual love for Snoopy brings them together, but finding out Logan is Bryn’s new boss just might tear them apart before they even really begin. The attraction and chemistry between them is out of this world. The harder they try to stay apart the more the are drawn to the other. I loved their banter, back and forth texts and mutual love of their cats. The cats alone will keep a smile on your face. I absolutely loved this book!

- Fun, flirty, and all fire5 star

Readers. This was was all sparks and fire from the start! Like, deep breath, heart-racing storytelling at its best! Bryn and Logan sizzle and scorch in this honest, lovely and sexy story. He’s a single dad, she’s been burned in the past...they both don’t know if they can trust a relationship again... but the chemistry is purely undeniable! Plus, Lauren adds in some fun chapter perspectives! I won’t give it away! But, you’re going to fall in love with this one! Squeal, eeek, fan girl screams at The What If Guy!!!

- Playful, sweet, and spicy4 star

The What If Guy was a fun, sweet, playful, and spicy story. Logan and Bryn were great characters and I loved their meet cute. I enjoyed Logan and Bryn's amusing and hot chemistry and banter. It really made the story that much more pleasant. They made sense together and it was fascinating to see how they would navigate through everything. Logan was such a sweet dad to his daughter-loved the moments we got with them. And the friend group was truly amazing. I was laughing and smiling whenever they interacted together. Lauren's books are always a win for me-amazing characters, awesome storyline, amazing writing, and the right combo of sweet, fun, and hot moments. The What If Guy had it all and I was completely engaged from beginning to end. Excited to read more from this friend group!

- 5 Perfect Stars5 star

The What If Guy starts off with one of my favorite meet-cutes which immediately had me in love with this story....and I was barely through the first chapter! I loved everything about this deliciously fun, sexy office-romance/ forbidden-love/ single-dad story. It had all of the ingredients I crave in a story: a swoon-worthy adoring single dad who will make your ovaries pop, a smart, driven independent heroine, instant chemistry, supremely sexy times, witty banter and lots of laughs. Lauren Blakely once again delivered the perfect rom-com that readers will adore. Logan is the perfect book boyfriend! I fell hard for this sexy single dad. He ticks every one of my boxes and had me swooning throughout. And don't even get me started on his adorable daughter! Amelia was the cutest and her relationship with her dad was precious. He was attentive, dedicated, loving and fun---the perfect dad! I was envious of Bryn not only because of Logan but also because she's so in tune with her body. She speaks her mind and asks for what she wants. And I just adored her love of all things kitschy! It was so fun! Together Logan and Bryn had incredible chemistry. Try as they might, they never could stay far away from one another. I loved everything about their relationship from the moment they first connected to the perfect happy ending that these two richly deserved. Sigh......talk about swoon! Don't miss this amazing story that quickly jumped up the ranks as one of my favorite Blakely books. You'll love every minute of it! 5 stars

- My New Favorite5 star

I’m a big Lauren Blakely fan anyway, but this book is my new favorite. I love the main characters - single dad Logan & Sassy lady-boss Bryn who kills it at work but has no luck in love. Add in Logan’s adorable daughter Amelia, two hilarious cats, crazy hot sex and fun friends & this book has it all. Lauren’s characters are people I want to be friends with. - delightful and playful story4 star

THE WHAT IF GUY is the second instalment in Lauren Blakely’s contemporary, adult THE GUYS WHO GOT AWAY erotic, romance series focusing on a tight-knit group of friends. This is lifestyle website manager Bryn Hawthorne, and media finance entrepreneur / single father Logan Clarke’s story line. THE WHAT IF GUY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Told from dual first person perspectives (Bryn and Logan), as well as third person from our couple’s cats, and several text messages between our leading couple, THE WHAT IF GUY follows the building romance and relationship between thirty-two years olds, lifestyle website manager Bryn Hawthorne, and media finance entrepreneur / single father Logan Clarke. Bryn Hawthorne is a collector but when a handsome stranger wants the same Snoopy lunchbox as Bryn has been coveting, all bets are off when Bryn posts an ad in the ‘Made Connections’ chat room in an effort to find the man that caught her eye. With a connection made, Logan and Bryn agree to see one another followed by a wild night of passionate $ex neither one will ever forget. But a buyout of the copy for which Bryn currently works finds our heroine face to face with her new boss and CEO Logan Clarke, and the future of their relationship is about to be put on hold. Days of uncontained sexual attraction followed by nights of texting one another force our couple to come to a decision regarding their future, and their time together both inside and outside of the boardroom. What ensues is the building but forbidden romance and relationship between Logan and Bryn, and the potential fall-out if management determines their relationship goes against company policy. Bryn Hawthorne has already loved and lost when she discovered her husband wanted more than Bryn was able to give. Logan Clarke’s first wife left after having an affair but his love for his daughter Amelia is currently the most important relationship in his life. Meeting Bryn Hawthorne gives Logan a second chance at love but discovering he is technically Bryn’s boss puts a damper on their future plans. The relationship between Bryn and Logan is one of immediate attraction. Bryn is sexually aggressive and knows what she wants-she demands honesty both in and out of the bedroom. Logan is a man who is ready to move forward, and Bryn is the woman that will allow him to become the lover he has always wanted to be. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. The back and forth texting is sexy and fun. There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Logan’s friends Fitz and Ransom, Christian, and Oliver; his daughter Amelia, and his ex-wife Stacey; Bryn’s co-workers and friends Teagan, Hadley, Rosario, Matthew, Quentin, Isaac and James; sex toy company owner Casey Sullivan as well as Logan’s cat Queen LaTofu, and Bryn’s cat Bruce. THE WHAT IF GUY is story of friendships, family, passion and love. The premise is energetic, sexy and fun; the romance is provocative and intense; the characters are spirited and impassioned. THE WHAT IF GUY is a delightful and playful story of forbidden love and happily ever after.

- Cats on a hot tin roof5 star

This is one funny rom-com! Everything starts over a Snoopy lunch box and it's crazy from there going forward!!! They agree to one night but in the morning they are not satisfied but reality will throw a bucket of cold water on their future. They have two choice, either they go and forget everything or they try to make it work.? I loved Logan and Bryn together, he has finally met his match in every way and he can finally let his dominant side come out to play with Bryn who also happy to oblige. A great fun story with amazing characters and two devilish cats that have their own agendas. Lots of LOL moments with equal parts steaminess. I volunteered to review this arc.

- Full of humor & heart!4 star

4 STARS The What if Guy is book #2 in the Guys that Got Away Series. It can be read as standalone. This is a story filled with Lauren Blakely’s usual heart, humor and heat which I can never get enough of. I adored the witty banter between the two main characters and couldn’t get enough of the sweet, flirty moments and the feline comedy. The book and storyline start off strong with an adorable meet cute. Logan is a divorced single dad. He is Summer’s twin whom we meet in Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend. He has spent the last few years focused on work and his daughter and has made no time for dating or relationships. Bryn is a super confident, successful woman. She is the VP of a lifestyle website. She has had some terrible luck with men including a cheating ex husband and also remained pretty career focused until her first encounter with Logan. After some reflection she decides she should take some of her own dating advice from her work and try to reconnect with Logan through a dating app. The chemistry between Logan and Bryn was instant. Neither had felt a connection to another the way they did at first meet. They engage is some serious sexy times and the steam factor was off the charts. Logan is commanding and completely dominating and Bryn loved that. After their seriously sinful, passionate night reality kicks in and they realize too quickly that they have to halt a relationship from developing. After this point there was a little push and pull and wavering on how they can make things work but it wasn’t too drawn out or overdone which I completed appreciated. What didn’t work for me was the cat POV chapters. The dialogue was interesting and I appreciate the humor Lauren tried to add in but I am not sure it really made sense with these characters. It felt out of place and if omitted would have made this a 5 star read for me. Overall I loved this story and look forward to Fitz’s story next in A Guy Walks into My Bar. *I received an ARC from Candi Kane PR in exchange of an honest review.

- Loved it5 star

If you are looking for a spicy fun read then The What If Guy is the book for you. This was a great addition to Ms.Blakely’s latest series and was an entertaining read that had me riveted from the first to the last chapter. As I have come to expect from Ms. Blakely, the story was funny with characters you cannot help but fall for and whose story I was fully invested in. Add in that our hero Logan is a single dad and I was so happy. The chemistry between Logan and Bryn is instant, in fact as soon as their eyes meet across a vintage lunch box, the sparks fly. The addition of their cats Queen LaTofu and Bruce respectively added an additional layer and if you listen to the audio it was even better than reading their narratives. I laughed so much with the humour and banter, these characters are just so fabulous that you want to be their friends. I really loved Bryn, what a feisty, sassy, independent woman she is, whilst Logan is totally swoon worthy. Individually these characters were awesome but together they take the book to another level. This book had me laughing and smiling throughout and is one I thoroughly enjoyed. The What If Guy is a fun romantic comedy, it’s a story of finding love when you least expect it, of taking a leap of faith and finding your soul mate.

- Wonderful entertaining read5 star

Where to start and what to say that hasn’t already been said..... If you are looking for a fun, entertaining read with adorable characters look no further than The What If Guy ( the Guys Who Got Away #2). I was captivated from the first page and there was no putting down until I had read the final line and even then I wanted more from Logan and Bryn and their cats Queen LaTofu and Bruce and yes these cats do get a couple of chapters to themselves. Ms Blakely is one of my go to authors and as soon as I read the blurb for this book I was excited because let’s be honest she is the queen of romantic comedy and once you add in the single dad angle you are sure to have the perfect read. In these uncertain times I’m sure we are all looking to escape into our books and The What If Guy is the ideal book to help you leave the world behind, the characters are adorable, the banter is witty and funny and the chemistry is sizzling hot. This series is one I will certainly read and re-read because this author’s writing has drawn me in and made me feel like I’m part of this group of friends who share so much love and humour. I’m so excited for the next book in this series and it can’t come soon enough. This is a book about friendship, Soulmates, love and taking a leap of fate when you least expect to. I urge you all to one click this gem.

- The What If Guy4 star

The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely The What If Guy is the latest in Lauren Blakely's RomCom repertoire and is possibly her sexiest one yet. After the meet-cute all meet-cutes aspire to be, and reconnection like no other, Brynn and Logan discover that Logan is in fact, Brynn's new boss. Queue the shock and horror. They do their absolute best to keep things strictly on a professional level but who are we kidding here? The chemistry was off. the. charts. There was no way these two could keep the sexy things out of the relationship! Le sigh. I lovvvvve single parent romances and Logan is probably one of the sexiest single dads around. I loved his relationship with his daughter - it was so sweet! He’s never been given the opportunity to express himself fully in a sexual sense and he’s delighted to discover that Brynn and he are two peas in a pod. Brynn herself has never had the freedom to just let go and vocalize her needs and she thrives in that regard with Logan. These two characters really set the pages alight with the heat factor but I would have loved a little more heart. Both Logan and Brynn were extremely likable characters and I’m looking forward to more glimpses of them going forward. While I loved the main characters and the story itself, the cats really stole the show for me. Lauren Blakely writes brilliantly from *any* point of view - be it human or otherwise! *I voluntarily read an early copy of this book. **Reviewed by Melinda for Joandisalovebooks Blog.

- Purr-fect!5 star

Loved it, couldn’t put it down, and if life didn’t get in the way, I would have had it finished in one sitting. LB does rom-com’s so well. She knows the balance between adding humor to romance and sexy, dirty times. This office, single dad romance will delight and entertain you from page one. There is an added bonus too, there’s a side romance we get to discover between Bruce and Queen LaTofu. To be honest, the story line is not something new. Our hero meets a cute girl and they go on a date, later to discover he is now her new boss. What I loved about this book was the way they dealt with the dilemma. It wasn’t dramatized, it wasn’t dragged out for uncalled for angst. It was pure and believable on how each of them felt and how it affected their jobs and lives. After Logan’s divorce and being shut down for so long, he was ecstatic to find someone who he clicked with, who wanted the same things he did. Someone who treasured intimacy of the mind, body and heart along with love, things that were lacking for each of them in previous relationships. They felt connected to each other on many levels. I thought it was special they could be their true selves when alone together. Bryn discovers that Logan is filthy, sweet and businesslike all in one - a multitasking master! Logan finds out that not only is Bryn gorgeous, kind and smart, but she is an amazing lady boss. Logan had conquered his dream job and career and I loved that he encourages Bryn in every way to do the same, he doesn’t hold her back. Which to me is sexy all on its own! I am truly enjoying this series and I’m looking forward to Frizy’s story and his meet cute with a guy in a bar.

- What if... Logan was your guy??5 star

The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely is hands down the best ‘feel-good’ story I have read this year. It tops all Lauren’s other great books and believe me, that’s saying a lot. I don’t think I have smiled so hard while reading for- well, -ever. I just couldn’t stop. From the opening pages depicting Logan and Brynn’s meet-cute, to the last tender word, I was caught up in the spell of this tale of a sexy, single dad and the woman who captures his jaded heart. From the first thumb brush where electricity flew, I knew this was going to be a fun read, but it was so much more. It was sweet, cute, and very, very real. Logan and Brynn are both divorced, the reasons for them being so are brought up and are strikingly similar, so much so, that I thought Lauren was going to take part of this story in a different direction. But, while their exes get a mention and a scene or two, there’s not much more than that. There is zero angst, which is a refreshing change. The chemistry between Logan and Brynn was off the charts hot. Their banter was fun and flirty, some downright dirty, and the sexy times were indeed that and a whole lot more. With Logan being Summer’s brother, and Oliver’s best friend, we got to revisit that previous couple from Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend. Logan’s lovely little girl was folded into the story with ease and the feline features own POV’s are sure to be a hit with cat-lovers. So, if you’re searching for the best of the new releases this week, then in my humble opinion, this is it!!! One-Click your copy today and I bet you’ll agree.
